Abia Warriors secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United in a highly anticipated matchday 19 of the 2024-25 NPFL season at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
The visitors’ persistence paid off in the 35th minute when Sheddy Kenneth scored a brilliant volley, catching the Bayelsa United defense off guard. This solitary goal proved to be the difference-maker in the match.
The Prosperity Boys, despite starting the match with a sense of urgency, struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout the game. Their early attempts were off target, and Abia Warriors’ right flank proved to be a thorn in their side.
In the second half, Bayelsa United introduced Rabiu and Yazid to inject more urgency into their attack, but Abia Warriors’ defense held firm. The visitors successfully navigated the remaining minutes to secure the win albeit some half chances that the Prosperity Boys couldn’t convert.
The victory takes Abia Warriors up to 5th in the table pending the outcome of other matches, while Bayelsa United will look to regroup and bounce back in their next fixture after the mid season break. The presence of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, added to the electric atmosphere at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
