Team Bayelsa produced a brilliant performance in chess in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State tagged Asaba 2024 by outperforming twenty eight other states in the country.
Bayelsa chess team showed no mercy to opponents amassing a total of 5 gold, one silver and bronze the highest won by any sports closely followed by swimming which won four gold, silver and a bronze medal.
The delightful kids won gold in the boys blitz event from Goodness Ekunke, Treasure Ebiakpo also claimed gold in the girls blitz event while Treasure Ebiakpo settled for silver in the girls individual.
Bayefa Miebi recorded gold in the girls individual, Goodness Ekunke clinched gold in the boys individual event, the girls secured gold while the boys settled for a bronze, Bayefa Oyeinkeperemo also won a bronze medal to increase the medal tally.
In athletics Bayelsa won silver in the 400X100 metres boys, Perfect Faye claimed bronze in the 200m boys. Bayelsa now has two silver medals and a bronze in athletics.
Darts, which had earlier won gold in the 501 doubles, could only manage silver as they lost to host Delta in the mixed doubles TDB from the duo of Andrew Blessing and Favour Ketekete.
Team Bayelsa as of the time of filing this report have won fourteen gold, seventeen silver and twenty bronze medals while wrestling will start on Wednesday (Today)as the National Youth Games enters the final stretch.
