A security guard attached to the Secretariat of Action People’s Party, APP, in the new GRA, Port Harcourt, is battling for survival in the hospital after he was allegedly shot by gunmen at midnight.

The shooting of the security guard came barely a month after the party secretariat was bombed by yet-to-be-identified bombers on the night of August 12.

Sunny Wokekoro, the state Chairman of the party confirmed the midnight attack to Journalists at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday.

He said the party was yet to get the full details of the midnight attack and motives behind the midnight gun attack and the previous bombing because the Police officers deployed to the secretariat after the August 12 bombing incident are yet to brief the party on the latest attack.

The APP State Chairman lamented the inability of the Police to identify the culprits behind the attacks, especially since they have yet to disclose any details about last month’s explosion.

Wokekoro and other leaders of the party are of the consensus opinion that the attacks were aimed at intimidating the party from participating in the local government election slated for Saturday, October 5, but vowed that it will not back out.

Our Correspondent reports that there has been a groundswell of opinion in political circles that some loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara may pitch their tent in APP for forthcoming local government polls due to a crisis in the State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where they have been sidelined. The same problem as the State All Progressives Congress, APC, that has been torn apart by litigations.

However, Fubara has severally denied alleged plans to defect from PDP.

At the time of filing this report, the Rivers Police Command had yet to react to the midnight attack.
