NIGER DELTA EX-AGITATORS FORUM REJECTS IMPEACHMENT PLANS AGAINST GODSWILL AKPABIO
...TO ALIGN WITH SOUTH WEST, SOUTH EAST, NORTH CENTRAL FOR A SOUTHERN NIGERIA MOVEMENT.
…PROPOSES CREATION OF SOUTH SOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION.
A coalition of Ex-Agitators under the aegis of “Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum” has asked Northern politicians that are initiating impeachment plot against Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio to desist from such action and support the leadership of the 10th Nigerian Senate led by the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Chairman of Akwa Ibom Ex-Agitators Forum, Amb. Dr. Alban Paulinus communicated the group’s position at a world news conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also called on Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his words “It is imperative that we recognize President Tinunu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a comprehensive blueprint for addressing the complex challenges facing our nation. His administration has demonstrated steadfast commitment to reforms that promises to bring about much needed development across Nigeria.
We, the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum extended our unequivocal support to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the vision he embodies for a united and prosperous Nigeria“.
Speaking on what they described as deliberate steps to undermine the Southern leadership particularly President Bola Tinubu and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Amb. Dr. Paulinus alleged the calls for the impeachment of the Senate President is yet another troubling trend having survived threats of impeachment and media slander sponsored by politicians from the northern region of Nigeria within his first year in office.
The leadership of the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum announced plans for the formation of a “Southern Nigerian Movement” with the targets to protect, project and defend our political, economic regional interest.
The forum also extended an invitation to Nigerians from the West and North Central regions of the country to join forces with the initiator of the movement in achieving its set goals particularly addressing the problem of Insecurity.
Reacting on the recent passage of the bill to establish South East Development Commission and that of South West, the Ex-Agitators demanded for immediate establishment of a South South Development Commission.
They argued that the proposed new commission is distinct from the Niger Delta Development Commission emphasizing that the NDDC is an aggregate of oil producing states which cut across South West and South East.
However, the South South Development Commission will be a zonal agency like it’s done in the other regions to consolidate on development of Government in the said areas and most especially drive the gains of good governance to the rural communities.
Those who attended the news conference include, Stakeholders of the Niger Delta region, Mr. Ebi Waribigha, Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Strategic Committee, Comrade Nature Dumale, Representative of Government Oweizide, Comrade Ellington Ekufebakumo and others.
