Heartland Queen’s ace, Kalu talks tough ahead of Royal Queen’s NWFL matchup
Tough talking Heartland Queens outside right, Onyinyechi Kalu popularly known as Cha-cha-Cha de Chacharito is quite hopeful that her goal(s) will count as well as prove decisive against hosts, Royal Queens.
The Owerri side will be the guests of the Oil City side, Royal Queens in Wednesday’s NWFL Premiership matchday 9 at the Sapele City Stadium in Sapele, Delta state.
Kalu, who tops her side’s goals chart on three goals, said her joy will be to see to her envisaged goal(s) in Sapele add to the overall success of her side as it happened in the 3-0 win against Adamawa Queens in Owerri.
“It’s not by my strength alone that I am the leading goal scorer at the moment for my side, it’s God’s blessings and the contributions of my teammates and coaches.
“Surely, as you all believe in me I will put more efforts to score again in Sapele against the host side, Royal Queens.
“I remembered scoring the match opener in Gombe against hosts, Adamawa Queens and it turned out to be mere consolation. But the reverse was the case in Owerri against the same Adamawa Queens where I scored in the 3-0 win and my goal counted and this time I hope to score in Sapele and it will surely count in our victory.
“My target for the game is to score two goals to add to the three already in my kitty. We defeated them last season home and away and this season we have beaten them in our home we are going to attempt doing the same thing right there at their backyard once again.
“Of course, I have a dream for the season which has been my prayer point to end the ongoing season as top scorer. I’m hoping that with 11, 12 or 13 goals in all I can achieve the season’s dreams,” said the former Imo Angels mesmerising wingster.
Kalu, who also holds the 2023/2024 NWFL fastest goal record and is nicknamed Cha-cha-cha, said she is believing that the clash against Royal Queens in Sapele will count among the easiest league matchup for her side.
“Though no two matches are the same our coaches always tell us and that’s true. For the game in Sapele I am hoping it turns out to be the easiest match for us. Personally, I hope it becomes the easiest match or my easiest game,” said the sleek sharpshooter.
The all smiles finisher is cocksure that her side will berth the enviable Super Six ticket even before the curtains are drawn on the season.
“Sure, as you can see it we are there already, we are there in the Super Six, and we must be there,” she enthused.
For three weeks running in the eight-week old topflight, Heartland Queens still lead the eight-team Group A log on 14 points same as close and stiff challengers, Nasarawa Amazons and Confluence Queens on superior goals.
