Upholding Democracy and the Rule of Law for Peaceful Resolution in Rivers State: A Call to Action
The Ijaw Youth Council Eastern Zone, under the chairmanship of Hon. Comrade Tamuno Kpokpo, is deeply troubled by the political crisis and tension unraveling in Rivers State. Our primary concern is to safeguard the essence of democracy and the rule of law. We urge all stakeholders, including political leaders, to prioritize peace and stability for the greater good of Rivers State and its people.
We firmly believe that His Excellency Sir Siminialayi Fubara, the elected Governor of Rivers State, representing the interests of the Ijaws and Southeast senatorial district, should be allowed to govern within the bounds of the law and his constitutional powers. Any attempts to undermine these fundamental principles will not be tolerated by the people.
Our plea extends to the authentic speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie. We implore him to honor his mandate and refrain from impeding the will of the people. Democracy must be upheld in Rivers State, and any attempts to erode it must be addressed. We stress the importance of engaging in dialogue and pursuing a peaceful resolution that respects the democratic will of the people.
We trust in the leadership of His Excellency Sir Siminialayi Fubara, and we believe that, considering his roots and background, he will not fail the people of Rivers State and his ethnic nationality. We remind all parties involved that Rivers State’s interest transcends personal agendas, and we call for a united effort towards a peaceful and democratic resolution.
The Ijaw Youth Council Eastern Zone is prepared to offer assistance in facilitating dialogue and ensuring that the interests of the people of Rivers State are prioritized. We echo the call for a peaceful resolution that upholds the rule of law and safeguards the democratic rights of the citizens of Rivers State.
