Rivers Crisis: Tinubu Meets Fubara, Odili at State House
Deji Elumoye in Abuja
President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Governor Sim Fubara and other stakeholders from Rivers State over the ongoing feud between the state governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The meeting held at the State House, Abuja was described as private but may have been called to resolve the lingering crisis, which had led to the defection of 27 House of Assembly members and the declaration of their seats vacant.
Also attending the meeting is former Governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, who is regarded as the political godfather of many of the present actors in Rivers State, including Wike.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and the deputy governor of the state, Ngozi Odu, also attended the meeting.
Wike, who is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was at the seat of power earlier in the day.
Recall that following the defection of the lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week, the court-recognized Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Edison Ehie, declared their seats vacant and wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections in their constituencies.
