The Comptroller of Immigration Service Rivers State Command, James Sunday, on Friday alongside his management team visited schools in Port Harcourt, Rivers State with the campaign against the dangers of Smuggling of Migrants (SOMs) and Trafficking in Persons (TIPs).
And also educate the pupils of the designated schools on the dangers associated with Japa syndrome and encourage Japada, meaning instead of exiting the Country, to start returning to build the country together and move the Nation forward, no one is a first class citizen outside his country of origin.
The Comptroller of Immigration Service Rivers State Command, James Sunday, while speaking on the sensitization visit to the Model Secondary School and UBE schools at the GRA, Port Harcourt, also announced the donation of Mattresses, Drugs and Waste Bins to the schools for the benefits of the pupils.
According to the Comptroller James Sunday, the NiS came to the schools for sensitization on the dangers of Smuggling of Migrants (SOMs) and Trafficking in Persons (TIPs) in a catch them young strategy to educate, inform and discourage the pupils from being victims or falling prey through relatives or organized syndicates in the two acts of modern slavery perpetrated under deceitful means and taking advantage of the vulnerability and poverty level of their victims.
He said “We are here representing the Comptroller General of Immigration Service Caroline Wuraola Adepoju to carry out this Campaign for the rescue of a generation from modern slavery unleashed by organized syndicates that approach the families or the victims directly with mouth watering offers that are unfounded and deceitful.”
“They risk the lives and destiny of unsuspecting citizens brainwashing them, hypnotizing and luring them into such ventures that sometimes results into Journey of no return in the Desert or the Sea as they navigate illegal routes and dangerous terrains in an effort to circumvent regular migration processes and procedures through recognized ports of entry and exit out of the country.”
“Under the watch of the Comptroller General of immigration service Caroline Wuraola Adepoju, we are spurred to use Education and Sensitization to discourage the Japa Syndrome and encourage Japada, which is like reversing the trend from the schools, at Motor Parks and every public space where this message can be disseminated and to the right audiences, for my team we decided for the schools.”
“We concluded our mission with the Fulfillment of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the schools noticing the state of their Sick Bay, Environment and need for supply of drugs which I did and the items were supplied for the benefits of the pupils and to step up first aid and primary level health care in the schools concerned.”
