The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has reacted to comment credited to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
PlatinumPost reports that Jonathan had on Friday said he would have relocated his mother to Abuja, if Governor Duoye Diri-candidate of the People’s Democratic Party , the , had not been reelected.
Jonathan, who spoke when he visited Diri in Yenagoa, commended the governor for addressing the problem of insecurity in the state.
But reacting to the statement in a post on his X handle on Saturday night, Sylva described the former President’s comment as unfortunate.
He said : “Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted. Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus”.
PlatinumPost reports that Sylva – a former governor of Bayelsa, was the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in the immediate past government of Muhammadu Buhari.
