Nigerian ladies hotter than Ghanaian women – Nigeria-based Ghanaian actor, Watabombshell
By Christian Agadibe
Talented Ghanaian actor, Enock Darko popularly known as ‘Watabombshell’, has carved a place for himself in Nollywood.
In this rare interview, he opened up on his career, challenges, love life, and why he believes that Nigerian ladies are hotter than Ghanaian women. Please enjoy it.
Can you briefly tell us about background?
My name is Enock Darko. I am a Ghanaian and my stage name is ‘Watabombshell’. We are five in the family, four boys and a girl. I am the firstborn and we are all living with our parents in Ghana.
Acting is my niche and I specialize in stage comedy, but I stopped and then focused on movie acting. I started the stage comedy stuff in 2011. I was involved in a reality show, The Territory Talented Kids in Ghana where I emerged as the first runner-up at the age of 12.
Give us a brief account of your journey into acting and how you came across your nickname, Watabombshell.
The nickname came when I was on set in Ghana, but the production crew did not take it serious. However, a Nigerian producer, Uchenna came to Ghana and he watched me for two years. He later gave me an opportunity to act with Yvonne Nelson because he loved my talent. That’s the first movie he did in Ghana, along with other two movies I did for him later. Uchenna soon went back to Nigeria but he called me one Sunday when I was in church, asking if could come to Nigeria for a movie. I agreed. When I came to Nigeria, it’s the first movie I did that I started saying, ‘what a bombshell’. When he dropped the movie on YouTube, people loved it. Then he asked me to maintain the saying, ‘what a bombshell’ in movies. I tried it again while acting with Destiny Etiko in a movie titled, Reason With Me and it hit so heavily. Since then, I have maintained the nickname, Watabombshell.
What kind of child were you when growing up?
As a child, I was a dancer. We used to do street dancing in a group but when I went to Talented Kids, everything changed and I started doing stage comedy.
What was your initial challenge when you came Nigeria?
When I was in Ghana, I could not get much opportunity in acting. But when I came to Nigeria, they gave me opportunities like playing lead roles, pairing me with big stars other than the Ghana gate man roles. So, I upgraded myself to fit into acting with big stars in Nigeria.
Which movie announced you in Nigeria?
The movie that announced me in Nigeria was Reason With Me with Destiny Etiko, where I played her boyfriend. In the movie, Destiny Etiko was pushing me to be a better man, so I had to use juju (charm) so I could make it.
Can you compare Ghanaian movies with Nigerian films?
In Ghana, the industry is not that vibrant but in Nigeria it is different. In Ghana, they won’t cast an old man to take the role of an old man, but in Nigeria they’ll cast an old man to make it real. In Ghana, rather than find a real old man to play the role, they will paint a young man to look like an old man. So, people complained bitterly and these made them to lose interest in Ghanaian movies. But I think Ghana jollof rice is superb (laughs).
How would you compare Nigerian ladies with Ghanaian women?
Most Nigerian ladies are goal-getters, they hustle for their money, they are not slow, and they don’t joke with money. Everything about Nigerian ladies is hot, hot. You can’t joke with them, and if you are dealing with them, you have to be careful. But most Ghanaian girls will not do you better.
When it comes to sex, which of them is hotter?
They are all good. But I have not really tested them for comparison.
What are you currently working on?
Currently, I have a lot of movies and I am working on more. The movies I have now are Just Like a Rainbow and How it Happened. But I have over 100 movies that you can watch and enjoy.
Have you ever been sexually harassed in Nigeria?
No, nobody has sexually harassed me. You can’t harass me because Bombshell doesn’t talk; he always talks when the camera is on.
Are you into a relationship and do you plan to settle down with a Nigerian actress?
Oh, I am not dating anybody here in Nigeria. But probably I will date someone in my country.
What are the quality traits you desire in a woman?
I love my woman to be a goal-getter, hardworking, humble and God fearing.
What is the craziest thing a female fan has done to you?
A crazy fan will say ‘bring your account’ and he will credit the account. Some of them like to argue, but the craziest of them will ask for sex. But I always say no.
Why do you decline such offers?
I don’t see it as something serious. It could come as a result of over-excitement but I normally decline.
Aside acting, what else do you do?
Aside acting, I am into business but I don’t really want to disclose it. You can’t make much money through acting only, so I have to do side business.
What advice do you have for up and coming actors?
I will advise them to slow down because acting is forever. They should be humble, hard working and not think that they will blow in one or two years.
