4500 athletes to grace National Youth Games in Asaba

No fewer than 4500 youths and 800 officials are set to participate in the 7th National Youth Games billed to hold in Asaba Delta Capital, Chairman, Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa has said.
Okowa, who spoke yesterday to reporters in Asaba, said youths from the thirty six states and Federal Capital Territory will compete in the ten day event.
He said athletes will participate in 35 sporting events during the festival which will commence from 20th to 30th September.
He boasted that the state will surpass the standards of previous games, adding that the games will feature musical shows, cultural dances, aerobics and pyrotechnics.
Okowa assured that security will be adequately provided comprising of 120 policemen, Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Department of State Security(DSS)
Okowa assured that athletes to the games will undergo doping test to ensure a clean dope free games, adding that screening for age cheats will be prioritised.
He said over 400 athletes will represent Delta state at the youth games, stressing that it’s contingent will participate in all team events.
Okowa, who doubles as President Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), said twenty three venues will host different events during the games.
According to him, all sporting facilities for the games are ready, except the gymnasium which he said will be ready before the opening ceremony.
He said Delta state will hold the youth games consecutively over the next four editions.
