Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Morocco know their fate after FIFA U-17 World Cup Draw
The four representatives for Africa at this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup™ had their group stage opponents confirmed at the official draw of the tournament on Friday, which had one of Africa’s iconic legends, Stephen Appiah as one of the draw assistants.
The FIFA U-17 World Cup is set to take place in Indonesia between 10 November and 02 December this year, with reigning African champions Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Morocco being the four nations to represent Africa at the global showpiece in a few months’ time.
The Atlas Cubs of Morocco have been drawn in Group A where Said Chiba’s charges are set to face host country, Indonesia, Ecuador and Panama.
Runners-up in the 2015 edition, Mali will be hoping to go all the way in this year’s edition but will first have to overcome Spain, Canada and Uzbekistan in Group B.
Reigning African champions, Senegal go into the tournament with a lot expected of them by the continent as they face Japan, Poland and Argentina in Group D.
Looking at Group E, Burkina Faso, bronze medallists of the most recent TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations take on France, Korea Republic and the United States of America.
The FIFA U-17 World Cup™ has been a happy hunting ground for Africa in recent years.
Besides Mali’s impressive second place finish in 2015, Nigeria holds the record for the most titles of the tournament with an impressive five to their name.
Ghana, who will not be present at this year’s edition have claimed it twice and finished second on two occasions.
