CAF Confederation Cup: AFAD surprise SOAR, Dreams FC take control
The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup first leg of the second preliminary round kicked off on Friday evening with some high-octane African club football action.
Ghana’s Dream FC came from behind to overcome Kallon FC of Sierra Leone 2-1 at home, while SOAR were edged 2-1 at home by Ivorian side, Afad Djekanou.
It took just eleven minutes for the visitors to find the opener, to stun the highly vocal fans who packed the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana to set up what would be a highly entertaining encounter.
The goal was a wake-up call for the hosts who launched more attacks and found the leveller just before the break thanks to Daniel Karim’s right-footed strike.
Returning from the break, John Antwi found the lead in the 55th minute to put his side ahead in what would be the final goal of the match.
In the other fixture, Ivorian side, Afad Djekanou secured a crucial 2-1 away win over Academie Super Olympique d’une Afrique Renaissante (SOAR).
After a highly tactical first half, Michael Amani opened the scoring for the Ivorians just minutes into the second stanza. A goal which was followed by Tiemoko Coulibaly’s strike in the 58th minute before Mohamed Camara pulled one back for the hosts.
The Al Hilal Benghazi and Rayon Sports fixture which was scheduled to take place on Friday was postponed by CAF due to the unfortunate flooding in Libya.
