NYG 2023: Bayelsa Volleyball Head Coach Hails Team’s Performance
Head coach of Bayelsa State volleyball team Augustine Odumo has praised the State Volleyball male and female teams for qualifying for the 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
Coach Odumo in an interview, said he is proud of the lads qualification to the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
He noted that securing qualification to the games was indicative of the level of preparation going to the fiesta and explained that with adequate preparation even before the games he was confident of returning with a medal.
He asserted that the introduction of the Bayelsa State Sports Festival would help the State to discover more talents that would represent the State in different sports, pointing out that the State sports festival would help to complete the efforts of the Bayelsa State Sports Academy.
Coach Odumo explained that Bayelsa State festival should be used as a platform to prepare athletes within the age range of 10 to 15 years for the National Youth Games describing the performance of the lads as a perfect outing.
Also, Captain of the team Tarila Clarkson, said he was happy to see his team in the National Youth Games, maintaining that the training they had undergone has finally paid off for team Bayelsa.
He thanked his teammates and coaches for their support in ensuring that they progress to the youth version of the National Sports Festival, adding that his target was to help the team win gold in Asaba.
In the meantime, the Bayelsa Beach Volleyball male team on Monday qualified for the National Youth Games to make it eight out of eight that travelled to Calabar for the zonal elimination.
The team sports that qualified are Volleyball male and female, Basketball female, Softball, Handball,Football both male and female, Rugby female, Basketball female, while Hockey male and female also qualified for the Youth Games.
Out of the fifteen teams sports that featured male and female twelve teams made it to the National Youth Games while Basketball male, Baseball male and Beach volleyball female failed to secure qualification.
