Egyptian trainer El-Badry makes surprise Sfaxien exit

Veteran Egyptian coach Hossam El-Badry has stunned Tunisian club CS Sfaxien by resigning from his role after just four months in charge.

El-Badry walked away from the eight-time Tunisian league champions, bringing an abrupt end to his spell with the North African giants.

Sfaxien announced the Egyptian’s surprise departure, thanking the 63-year-old for his efforts.

“Coach Hossam El-Badri thanked the Sfaxien Sports Club Authority and handed over his resignation from his position as the head of the technical deaprtment of the first team,” a club statement read.

“As a result, we extend our thanks to the coach for his efforts since his arrival, and we wish him success in his future career.”

El-Badry was only appointed in March this year, overseeing 17 competitive games during his brief tenure in Tunisia.

His record stood at five wins, six draws and six losses before making the shock decision to leave CS Sfaxien.

El-Badry is best known for delivering sustained success over three spells at Egyptian powerhouse club Al Ahly between 2009 and 2018.

He masterminded an impressive haul of honours including three Egyptian league titles, the Egypt Cup, two Egyptian Super Cups, the CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup.

But he has been unable to replicate that prolific trophy-winning pedigree since taking over at Sfaxien earlier this year.

After finishing sixth in the Tunisian Ligue Professionelle 1 season, El-Badry has clearly decided the time is right to end his stay with the former African champions.

However, his sudden resignation only four months into the job has left Sfaxien needing to hastily source a replacement head coach.
