By Gbenga Gboyega
Newly promoted Sporting Lagos Football Club has completed the deal to sign former captain of Warri Wolves – Ekene Nero Olisema on a two-year deal reportedly worth the region of N400k in salary, bsnsports.com.ng reports.
The Lagos-based club, barely a year old since its creation in 2022 by Nigerian Software Engineer, Shola Akinlade, has moved in leaps and bounds both on the pitch and behind the scenes, after gaining promotion to the Nigeria Premier League for 2023-24.
With Coach Paul Offor at the helm of affairs, Sporting has added another leaf to their branch after completing a deal to sign 23-year-old Ekene Olisema from Warri Wolves whom he joined from Akwa United in December 2022.
The club’s project is getting clearer to the general public after reports emerged from media sources that Ekene reportedly rejected a 600k deal to sign for 2022 NPL champions – Rivers United, only to agree to a 400k deal in favour of Sporting.
According to @Mike_ThePundit on Twitter, the Warri-born player agreed to sign a two-year deal with Sporting Lagos at the detriment of Rivers United’s proposals, after captaining Warri Wolves to a second-place finish in the 2022-23 NNL season.
“Sporting Lagos has now completed a deal to sign Warri Wolves captain, Olisema Ekene permanently. Ekene signed for two years and will earn 400k monthly. I’m told he rejected an offer worth 650k a month from Rivers United.”
Although the signing fee is undisclosed at the point of this report, Sporting Lagos will make an official statement to announce their new acquisition as part of the build-up to the forthcoming campaign in topflight.
