PDP Govs Deliberate On Party’s Fate In First Meeting Today

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today hold its inaugural meeting in the new political dispensation to deliberate on the state of their party and the unfolding events in the country.

The meeting is the first meeting of the Forum since Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and his Rivers State counterpart, Seminalayi Fubara were elected as chairman and vice chairman of the forum in June.

Giving some insight on the essence of the meeting, director general of the Forum, Hon CID Maduabum, said the governors are expected to discuss the state of the nation, especially recent developments in the country, politically, socially, and economically.

“The meeting will also discuss the State of the Forum, the Party, PDP and the role of the PDP Governors in stabilising the PDP and the nation.

“In addition, the new leadership of the Forum may likely unfold their unity and progressive agenda during the meeting,” he said.

Recall that the party was split between camps loyal to the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and that of Former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, going into the last election.

Following the party’s loss at the last presidential election, the party leaders are yet to reconcile their differences even though the party leadership has started a reconciliation process.

The post-election friction within the party manifested during the recent election of National Assembly presiding officers as well as the emergence of principal officers.

Also while the party is challenging the outcome of the Presidential election, some of key members, especially former governors have been openly hobnobbing with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was further gathered that some of the party members may be nominated as federal ministers.
