NPFL: Violence erupts as Bayelsa United secures 2-1 win over Wikki Tourists

Bayelsa United Football Club secured a 2-1 victory over Wikki Tourists FC in a Group B Match Day 13 fixture of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.

The game, held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, kept the hosts in the ninth position of their group.

Amah Chuburu netted a goal for Wikki Tourists after 23 minutes, but Robert Mizo equalised for Bayelsa United in the 36th minute. Before the first-half whistle, Wisdom Stephen scored the second goal for the visitors, securing their lead with a scoreline of 2-1.

Unfortunately, the game ended with chaos as some Wikki Tourists fans threw objects and stones at one of the match’s assistant referees, accusing him of denying their team a second goal. The outburst of violence led to everyone running to save their heads.

Despite the unfortunate end, Bayelsa United will be pleased with their victory, which keeps them in contention for a place in the playoffs. The team currently sits in the sixth position of Group B with 18 points.
