IPOB member Simon Ekpa arrested in Finland

A self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Simon Ekpa has been reportedly arrested by the Finnish government for acts of terrorism.

According to reports, he was arrested today, Thursday, February 23, 2023, while allegedly trying to flee to Isreal.

Recall that Nigerians have asked the federal government to deal with Simon Ekpa after releasing statement that the upcoming elections would not hold in the South-East region.

Ekpa who is a Finnish citizen and resided in the country had on several occasions declared sit-at-home which violent enforcement had led to killings, maiming, and colossal destruction of properties of innocent residents of the region.

Worried by the threat, Ohanaeze Ndigbo held an executive committee meeting and condemned the threat by Simon Ekpa to lock down Igbo land.

Ohanaeze “expressed both shock and doubt that a true Igbo will unconscionably embark on a disingenuous duplicitous adventure aimed at denigrating, disenfranchising and decimating his people,” during the general election.

Ohanaeze noted that IPoB has disowned any sit-at-home in the South-East during the election period and wondered who Ekpa is working for.

“Ohanaeze therefore urges the residents in Igbo land to ignore the sit-at-home in its entirety.”

On February 16, 2023, it was reported that the Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa was arrested, however, the Finnish embassy in a statement said that the letter did not originate from Helsinki.

It read, “This is to inform you that the attached letter purporting to be signed by the Prime Minister of Finland and currently circulating widely in the media does not originate from the Finnish government.

“We have reported the Twitter message with which this fake letter was originally distributed and asked Twitter to remove it. Regrettably, copies continue circulating in social media and on various internet platforms.

“The Embassy would greatly appreciate it if you could take this information into account in your reporting.”
