NPFL: Agoye says Sunshine stars will return stronger as first half of season rounds up
February 23, 2023
Sunshine Stars’ Head Coach, Edith Agoye, has promised fans of the Akure-based club a better team in the second half of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Agoye made the assurance after his team defeated Wikki Tourists of Bauchi 1-0 in an NPFL Group B Match Day 9 fixture in Akure on Sunday.
Samson Olasupo scored the lone goal of the game at the Ondo State Sports Complex to give the home team the maximum three points. Although the coach acknowledged that the most important thing was to get the match’s three points, he said there was still work to do.

Agoye said he would continue to ensure that the team regrouped and was back stronger for the second half of the season, with the aim of improving their position on the log. He expressed concern over the team’s lack of goals and promised to work on improving their goal-scoring.
“However, today’s game was an exception, a very tactical game against a team that is very organised defensively. They stopped us from creating more goal-scoring chances today,” he said.

Agoye disclosed that the club management would allow the team’s players to go home and meet their families and participate in the general elections. After that, the team would regroup and prepare to come back stronger in the second half of the season.
Speaking also, the Head Coach of Wikki Tourists, Abdullahi Adamu, said his team would consider the loss to Sunshine Stars as an example of bad luck.
Sporting Tribune reports that Sunshine Stars have 15 points from nine matches to stay second on the log, while Wikki Tourists have eight points from nine matches to sit eighth in the group.
