The Recording Academy released the list of nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards, and Beyoncé dominates the number of mentions with 9. With this, she becomes the most nominated female artist in history and ties the overall record held by her husband, Jay-Z, with 88 nominations in his career.

Her album ‘Renaissance’ is nominated, among others, for Grammy for Best Album of the YearSong of the Year and Record of the Year. Of the 28 Grammys Beyoncé has won in her career, she has never won what is considered the most important, Album of the Year.

Going for the record for most Grammys won

If ‘Renaissance’ wins four of the nine Grammys it’s aiming for, she would set a new all-time record, currently held by conductor George Solti with 31. Beyoncé is currently tied with Quincy Jones for second place.

She is followed by Kendrick Lamar, who earned eight nominations and is also competing in the three categories mentioned above. In the top three categories (Record, Album and Song of the Year), there are 10 nominees in each, while the rest are the traditional 5 nominees.

Who goes for Album of the Year?

Competing in the Album of the Year category are Abba, Brandi Carlile, Steve Lacy, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Doja Cat, Mary J Blige and Adele, who earned seven nominations. Carlile tied her with seven.

Adele previously beat out Beyoncé for the 2017 Grammy for Album of the Year and paid tribute to her in her acceptance speech. “I can’t accept this award, and I’m very humbled and very grateful and thankful but my life is Beyoncé, and the album for me, the Lemonade album, Beyoncé, was so monumental, and so well thought out,” Adele said on stage.

Harry Styles, DJ Khaled, Future, The-Dream, Randy Merrill and Mary J Blige each received six.

This year’s Grammy includes new categories, such as Songwriter of the Year (non-classical), Best Alternative Music performance and Best Americana Performance.
