MEGHAN MARKLE: EXPERTS DISCUSS ‘DRAMA’ OVER WEDDING TIARA
A new book has claimed that the Queen firmly put Prince Harry “in his place” for being “downright rude” during a row over Meghan Markle‘s wedding tiara.
While the common perception is that Harry and Meghan’s Royal Family friction started in the years after they tied the knot in 2018, an expert has suggested the seeds of that discord were sewn during the months leading up to their Windsor Castle ceremony.
Valentine Low, who has been reporting on royal matters for more than a quarter of a century and provided The Times with a number of exclusives, has detailed that period in the couple’s lives in ‘Courtiers: the Hidden Power Behind the Crown’, which is set to be published on October 6.

In it, he touches upon a number of issues ahead of the Sussexes’ marriage, including arguments about scheduling, wedding announcements and the gospel choir.
It is the tiara story that is said to have caused the biggest stir for the long-reigning monarch, who passed away earlier this month after 70 years on the throne.

The saga reportedly began when the Queen said she would lend Meghan a tiara for the occasion with the sovereign having made the same gesture to Kate Middleton when she married Harry’s elder brother William.
Meghan subsequently chose Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, whilst in the company of Harry and Angela Kelly – the Queen’s dresser and curator of the Queen’s jewellery.

The former Suits actress then wanted her hairdresser to rehearse with the tiara prior to the big day but, when her stylist Serge Normant was available, Angela Kelly reportedly wasn’t, meaning the tiara wasn’t either.
According to another book, Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie’s ‘Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family’, Kelly ignored repeated requests to organise a trial.
Durand and Scobie then detailed Harry’s fury at his belief that some of the Palace’s old guard appeared not to like his wife-to-be.

But others believe more blame for the episode should be apportioned to Harry and Meghan, quoting a Mail on Sunday source that said: “Meghan demanded access to the tiara. She didn’t make an appointment with Angela but said, ‘We’re at Buckingham Palace. We want the tiara. Can we have it now please?’
“Angela essentially said, ‘I’m very sorry, that’s not how it works. There’s protocol in place over these jewels.
“They’re kept under very tight lock and key. You can’t turn up and demand to have the tiara just because your hairdresser happens to be in town’.”
It is then alleged that a seething Harry rang other people in an attempt to bend the rules and used some colourful language during his, at times, undiplomatic efforts. When Kelly reported this back to the Queen, Low’s book then quotes a source who said he was summoned to a private meeting with his grandmother where “he was firmly put in his place”, having been “downright rude”.
The Daily Star has approached the Palace for comment.
