What’s Next For King Charles? When Will His Coronation Be?
It has been a long journey for those in the UK and around the world that are mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
For the last few days Operation London Bridge has been followed to the letter but now that too comes to an end.

What Happened To The Queen’s Coffin After The State Funeral?
Following Queen Elizabeth’s public state funeral on Monday, the Queen’s coffin was transported to St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
A private burial service was held in King George VI Memorial Chapel with just the royal family in attendance.
The Queen was buried in the chapel, a small enclave inside St George’s, next to her late husband, Prince Philip.
When Does The UK Come Out Of Mourning?
The UK entered an official mourning period on September 9 upon the announcement of the Queen’s death and ended on September 20 following the Queen’s burial.
Is Charles Officially King Now?
Charles became King as soon as the Queen died on September 9. On September 10 he was officially proclaimed King by the Accession Council.
The Accession Council is formed of members of the Privy Council — mostly past and present politicians, including all living UK prime ministers, as well as Church of England leaders and senior royals.
About 200 senior UK ministers, advisers and diplomats attended Charles’ accession including current UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, former prime ministers John Major, Tony Blair and Boris Johnson, as well as archbishops, judges, and several senior members of the House of Lords.
Charles must now complete his coronation ceremony to be fully crowned as King.
When Will The Coronation Be?
We don’t know yet, but it won’t be for at least a couple of months. This is to allow appropriate time to mourn Queen Elizabeth and to have adequate time to organise a ceremony the royal family describes as, “an occasion for pageantry and celebration, but … also a solemn religious ceremony”.
Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on June 2, 1953 — some 16 months after her accession on February 6, 1952, when her father, King George VI, died. It is expected that King Charles III’s coronation will take place sometime during 2023.
