Although the date of the coronation is a long way off from being decided, a source has claimed that it could take place on a very poignant date for King Charles III

King Charles III’s coronation could take place on a very important date in the history of the Royal Family.

Rumoured to be scheduled for either May or June next year, the grand Westminster Abbey ceremony could potentially happen on the 70th anniversary of the date his late-mother Her Majesty The Queen was crowned in 1953.

According to several reports, planning for the event started yesterday (September 20), just 24 hours after the Queen’s funeral took place.

And now a source has shed some light on the details.

Speaking to the Sun, they said: “There is no rush for the coronation and there is an awful lot of planning that needs to be done, but it will be in May or June depending on what is going on in the world.

“It potentially could happen on the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation on June 2. That is one thing that is naturally considered.

“While the family remains in official royal mourning until next Monday nothing will be finalised very soon. But everyone is aware that it must happen next year and May or June is the preferred time.”

Much has been made of the cost of the event, which could be anything from around £200 million upwards, depending on who you believe.

However, one of the key changes King Charles is thought to be contemplating is to slim down the Monarchy, especially during a cost of living crisis.

And a source speaking to The Mirror verified this claim.

They said: “The King is very aware of the struggles felt by modern Britons so will see his wishes carried through that although his coronation ceremony should stay right and true to the long held traditions of the past, it should also be representative of a monarchy in a modern world.

“He has long been an advocate of a streamlined or slimmed down monarchy and this project could certainly be said to fit with his vision.”
