Police investigate Dogara’s allegation on ‘threat to his life’
The Bauchi State Police Command has said it is investigating former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara’s allegations that some people are planning to eliminate him and three of his supporters in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.
The Nation reports that the former Speaker had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba yesterday.
The petition addressed to the IGP and other security agencies was entitled “Appeal for a thorough investigation into gun-running activities involving Inspector Dakota Samuel, Inspector Auwalu Mohammed and Barau Joel Amos (Sarkin Yaki) as it relates to the confession of Barau Joel Amos that he sought to buy the rifles to kill me and three others.”
Dogara had said that he was “authoritatively informed that one Barau Joel Amos has confessed that the reason he sought to buy the rifles was to kill me and three of my constituents, Vis: Istifanus Bala Gambar, Rev. Markus Musa (CAN Chairman, Tafawa/Balewa) and Emmanuel (Chairman NL, Tafawa/Balewa).
Though the State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda in a telephone chat with reporters yesterday said the allegations are not true, he, however, said that Dogara has the right to petition the IGP.
”We are yet to confirm his claim because it came from only one person without any corroboration yet.”
He further said the investigation is ongoing and the outcome of the command’s findings will be made public.
“We will make public the outcome of the investigation once we are through with it. There is nothing to hide,” he said
