Chiamaka Okoro 7 not 4 months pregnant – Investigation
Contrary to information making the rounds in the media teenage girl, Chiamaka Okoro, in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) is seven months pregnant not four.
Chiamaka and five others were reportedly apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) while investigating activities of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Members of the gang were said to have taken to their heels leaving behind the girls, who were reportedly being kept against their will, in their hideout during a raid on March 14, 2022.
Social media had been awash with reports of the teenager’s pregnancy following a Facebook post by Anyi Kings on July 14, 2022, claiming that: “four months in DSS Chiamaka Okoro now pregnant in Owerri DSS dungeon.”
The post read in part: “Her name is Chidera Amaefula, a 15-year-old teenager from Atta Umunnam Njaba Local Government Area, Imo state.
“She and six other little girls: Oluebube Uzoma, Chidinma Oba, Favour Azubike, Chiamaka Okoro, Chibueze Ezike, and Mmesoma Ezike, are still been held hostage incarcerated and sexually abused in DSS for over four months now and counting in Owerri DSS dungeon.
According to Kings, “Disturbing report from DSS dungeon in Imo state has it that these little girls have been turned into sex slaves… which has resulted to a confirmed report that one of the girl Chiamaka Okoro is now pregnant.”
However, Blueprint investigation revealed that the post may not be unconnected with ongoing smear campaign against government and its agencies.
A source within the Imo state government told our correspondent that, “Chiamaka got caught up in a suspicious environment and was taken into custody by DSS operatives.”
The source, who did not want to be named, said the teenager upon her arrest kept mum about the pregnancy until May when she had started to show.
“Chiamaka is pregnant but not occasioned by DSS staff. She disclosed she took in January while co-habiting with one of the gang members, Ejima, now at large, operating around Njaba LGA of Imo state.
“This was confirmed by a pregnancy test conducted by the Imo state government through the Commissioner for Health at Medicae Munis, Owerri, on July 22, 2022.
“The test indicated that Chiamaka is 27 weeks and six days pregnant. The test also gave her expected delivery date as October 15, 2022, which is usually two weeks before or after the date.”
Speaking further the source said, “It is not surprising that those mounting pressure that she should be released are using all manner of narrative because they are afraid she may have indicted them.”
When contacted, the DSS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr. Peter Affunanya, said personnel of the service were highly disciplined to get involved in such act.
“Our personnel are highly disciplined and operate within standard operating procedure (SOP). They also know the consequence of such behaviour.”
According to him, “If you already have access to these medical reports you cited then our personnel have already been exonerated.”
