Osun PDP asks court to stop OSIEC from conducting council polls before Oyetola’s exit
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, yesterday, said that it had filed a suit before a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo against an alleged plan by Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to conduct local council election in the state.
There has been speculation among the state government officials that OSIEC had slated October 29, 2022, as the date for the polls.
A statement by the PDP Director of Media, Oladele Oluwabamiji, warned Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the election commission against going ahead with the planned election, saying that it is unlawful, and illegal and criminal.
BUT reacting, the OSIEC Chairman, Otunba Segun Oladitan, described as baseless and unfounded the rumours making the rounds that the council election had been slated for October 29, 2022, saying that no date has been announced by the commission.
According to a statement he signed yesterday, Oladitan said that only the commission is empowered to announce the election date and that any data coming from any other source should be disregarded by the public.
He said: “At the appropriate time, the commission would come out with the election guidelines to put a stop to the unnecessary rumours being peddled around.
He expressed the commitment of OSIEC to conduct a credible and acceptable council election at the appropriate time.
