CAF to decide on Super Eagles’ double-header clashes against Guinea Bissau

With most African countries already dealing with a heavy calendar, there may be postponements of the AFCON qualifiers and AFCON proper

The Super Eagles’ double-header clashes against Guinea Bissau originally slated for September may be postponed as CAF faces a race against time.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar may be forcing CAF’s hands as nations are calling for more time to prepare for the World Cup and the next AFCON.

Governing body for football on the continent had slated the next AFCON for June 2023 but may have its plans changed to shift the date to January 2024.

Weather conditions had previously been a concern for CAF as the Ivorian federation.

The Super Eagles will be free during the window and will have to fix friendly games for the period, most likely against World Cup-bound teams.

Nigeria sit top of their qualifying group after defeating Sierra Leone in Abuja and thrashing Sao Tome and Principe in a record 10-0 in Morocco.

A victory against Guinea Bissau may seal Nigeria’s fate for the next AFCON and guarantee qualification from Group A.

The Super Eagles suffered a double dose of disappointments between January and March after an unexpected exit from the AFCON was followed by a failure to qualify for the World Cuo.

Nigeria lost to Tunisia in the round of 16 of the last AFCON and also failed to overcome Ghana in the qualifiers.
