Jurgen Klopp was awarded the LMA Manager of the Year award on Tuesday evening after another astounding season in charge of the Reds.

Despite missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City by one point, the Reds achieve 90 plus points for the third time under the German’s guidance and produced a remarkable run during the second half of the season to close the gap on the Sky Blues.

This is the second time Klopp has won this prize, which is voted for by fellow professional managers and can be awarded to any coach in England’s top four tiers. The Liverpool boss was also recognised for his efforts during the 2019/20 after ending Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the top-flight title.

In attendance to present Klopp with the LMA manager’s award was former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who has witnessed his old rivals go from strength-to-strength following the arrival of the ex-Borussia Dortmund coach. Clearly pained by the realisation of the force Liverpool have become as a result of the 54-year-old, Ferguson announced: “This is agony, absolute agony!” as he handed over the trophy.

When the pair first met 12 years ago, Ferguson advised Klopp to ‘go to a club with history’ – a message he now regrets giving. “I should have told him to go to Scunthorpe United,” joked the Scot.

Responding to this remark, the Liverpool manager added: “I couldn’t understand anything he [Ferguson] said… I’ve improved through working with Robbo and Kenny.”

Klopp was also named the Premier League Manager of the Season on Monday evening, beating off competition from Eddie Howe, Patrick Vieira, Pep Guardiola and Thomas Frank.
