Kano-bound passengers stranded as Azman Air diverts scheduled flight to Akwa Ibom for Akpabio’s declaration
Azman Air has diverted its scheduled flight from Abuja to Kano for a charter service to Victor Atta International Airport, Akwa Ibom.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the flight was initially scheduled for 2pm on Wednesday, but passengers got notification on Tuesday night that the flight was rescheduled to 6:30pm.
The message reads: “Dear Esteemed Passenger, We regret to inform you that your Azman Air flight ZQ2331 ABUJA-KANO 4TH MAY 2:00PM has been rescheduled to depart at 6:30PM due to operational reasons. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. For more inquiries, kindly contact us on 09099800600 or info@airazman.com.”
But aviation insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that the airline deliberately left the passengers stranded to go for charter service, which pays higher than the schedule services.
“You know Senator Godswill Akpabio has declared for president today in Akwa Ibom. So Azman left passengers stranded and diverted its flight to carry politicians from Abuja to Akwa Ibom for the event,” said the source.
According to the source, the airline currently has only two planes for local operations as the other planes had gone for a periodic C-Check.
As of the time filing this reports at 10:30pm, over 100 passengers were left stranded at the Abuja airport, grumbling over the airline’s unfair treatment.
DAILY NIGERIAN could not reach the airline for comment as several calls through the number provided were not answered.
