Erling Haaland to Chelsea transfer: Bayern Munich call, Man City offer, Thomas Tuchel interest
Chelsea transfer news: All the latest updates on Erling Haaland’s future amid strong speculation around a summer move to Stamford Bridge
ERLING HAALAND MAKES BIG CHELSEA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLAIM AHEAD OF SUMMER TRANSFER DECISION
The future of Erling Haaland continues to dominate the world of football ahead of a potential summer transfer. The Borussia Dortmund and Norway striker is probably the most wanted property in Europe right now when it comes to football, with Chelsea one of numerous clubs supposedly chasing his signature.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were strongly interested in Haaland last summer, but the World champions could not agree on a deal with Dortmund, who were determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old for another season at least. The Norwegian, whose current contract with the German giants expires in 2024, has a release clause that allows him to leave at the end of this season for just £68m, as per Marca, making a potential deal all the sweeter.
Though, despite what seems a shrewd fee on the face of it, the Daily Star have claimed that Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola will demand an eye-watering £47million fee for brokering a deal. So, with the summer window fast approaching and X factors to juggle, here are all the latest developments on where the striker’s future lies.

Bayern Munich pull out
Bayern Munich have decided to take their business elsewhere and pulled themselves out of the race to sign Haaland this summer. The Bundesliga champions’ decision hands Chelsea a major boost in securing the Norwegian’s signature at the end of the season.
Oliver Kahn, Bayern CEO, has ruled out the possibility of the German giants throwing their hat in the ring once the summer window opens. In an interview with German TV broadcaster Sport1, the 52-year-old admitted that Haaland is too expensive and outlined the club’s plan to extend Robert Lewandowski’s contract, which ends in June 2023.
“We wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we didn’t look at a young striker like him,” Kahn said. “He’s an excellent forward, and a highly interesting player for the future. But the financial dimensions are beyond our imagination.”
“As of today, Robert has a contract with us. We’re currently in contact with him and we want him to stay at Bayern for as long as possible,” he added.
“Some people seem to think it’s like an online manager game, where you click on something to extend the contract. Robert has become the world’s best footballer with us, scoring 30 to 40 goals every season. He has the potential to achieve that every season.
“Of course, players like that sometimes think about trying something else and it takes time to convince them. There are also financial aspects to consider, and as a club you have to think about how to manage that because FC Bayern have suffered from the pandemic in the last two years.”
Manchester City talks
Manchester City have held talks with Haaland, according to reports, with the wage structure said to be decided. The Daily Star reports that Pep Guardiola’s side have held talks with the forward over a potential move as well as wage structure.
The report claims that he has been offered a similar basic salary to key player Kevin de Bruyne, while lucrative add-ons could be involved. Whoever is to be lucky enough to sign the youngster will certainly have to spend an eye-watering amount of money.
Though, the MailOnline claim that City have reportedly tabled an offer of £500,000 per week in a deal that would make him the Premier League’s highest-earning player.
Lukaku impact on Haaland transfer
According to Sport BILD, via Sport Witness, the recent dispute between Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku is set to have a big impact on the Blues’ pursuit of Haaland. Lukaku spoke publicly about his desire to one day rejoin Inter Milan and also criticised Tuchel‘s tactics. He has since apologised, but the report from Germany states that this has changed transfer plans in west London somewhat.
Chelsea apparently were not considered as a serious candidate to land the Borussia Dortmund striker, but things have changed. Lukaku’s comments did not go down well, despite his recent apology, and it is ‘no secret’ that Tuchel loves Haaland and that Roman Abramovich has the ‘financial means’ to go out and sign him.
The report claims that Haaland is demanding over €30million (£25m) per year and the west London club can indeed afford that.
Major Chelsea decision made
Haaland “doesn’t like” Chelsea or the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio. The Norway international does not see the English top-flight as part of his “dreams” at the moment, and would rather a move elsewhere, it is being reported.
Di Marzio told German outlet Wettfreunde: “He doesn’t like the Premier League too much. It is not in his dreams. It is not the perfect league at the moment.
“He prefers La Liga – he likes Liga a lot. So, I think in his thoughts, La Liga is the perfect tournament, now, to play in. Or Bundesliga, where he is currently playing.
“So it is not sure that he’ll leave in the summer. Borussia Dortmund thinks that for his career, another year there should be the right step.
“I don’t know what Mino Raiola (Haaland’s agent) thinks about it. I think Raiola wants to get him out of Borussia Dortmund because after two years there it is important for him to have another challenge. So I think he will try to find the right solution for him.”
Rangnick eyes Man Utd move
Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is ‘pushing’ for the club to sign Haaland in the summer, according to our sister title Manchester Evening News. Rangnick, who has a contract until the end of the season at Old Trafford, has recently spoken to Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, about the possibility of signing his son next summer.
Haaland came close to joining United two years ago, but chose a move to Borussia Dortmund instead, where he has flourished ever since.
Tuchel’s view on Haaland transfer
Speaking back in October, Chelsea boss Tuchel admitted the Blues are interested in signing Haaland. It was hardly a secret that the European champions liked the 21-year-old forward, but Tuchel even went public with the club’s stance over the Dortmund sensation earlier in the year.
“We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible,” the German coach told Bild.
“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.
“You mean two at the top [with] Lukaku and Haaland? We can talk about it!
“I don’t think we’ve been really serious about it yet, but let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks.”
