Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has revealed what would make him drop out of the race to become the national chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the former Senator stated that he is still in contention for the APC national chairmanship seat, adding that he would not drop out if President Muhammadu Buhari officially endorses any of the aspirants.

Ali Modu Sheriff, however, dismissed the alleged endorsement of former Nasarawa governor, Abdullahi Adamu, by Buhari.

According to him, he would obey Buhari’s decision to endorse a candidate as a loyal party member.

Ali Modu Sheriff said: “Of late, I have been inundated by insinuations and rumours that President Muhammadu Buhari has zoned and endorsed a candidate for this all-important position in our party’s leadership.

“First and foremost, I am not aware of any official statement or position by Mr President on the endorsement of any particular candidate or/and zoning of the Chairmanship position of our great party.

“Mr President and indeed the party is yet to issue a formal statement on these issues. I am in the race for the National Chairmanship position of our party APC because of my strength of character, capacity and competence. My intentions are clear and explicitly for the public good rather than self-interest.”

While insisting that he is ready to work with anyone to move the party forward, the former Borno governor expressed confidence in Buhari’s ability to back the right aspirant.
