We’re rooting for Super Eagles to win AFCON 2022 — Entertainers

Following Nigeria’s win against Guinea Bissau at the ongoing African Cup of Nations competition, some entertainers have drummed up support for the Super Eagles to win the competition.

Sunday Scoop reached out to some entertainers and they expressed optimism that Nigeria could emerge the winner of the football event.

Comedian, Kenneth Agberia, aka MC Shakara, said, “The Super Eagles have been soaring high so far. The chemistry between the boys (players) has been amazing, technically, physically and mentally. I see them winning the AFCON if they don’t get carried away by the success they are enjoying now. So, focus is the game.”

On her part, comedienne, Anita Asuoha, aka Real Warri Pikin, revealed that she used to play football during tournaments organised by her church. She also expressed confidence that the Super Eagles would win the competition. She said, “I played football but it was basically tournaments in youth programmes in my church. I would prefer a Nigerian coach for the Super Eagles but it seems they are planning to hire a foreign coach. I really have high hopes for Nigeria to win the AFCON.

Another comedian, Bowoto Jephthah, aka Akpororo, also stated that he once desired to play for the team. He added, “Everyone knows that I support the Super Eagles. I knew we were going to win our last game because we won our previous two games. I want to see changes in our ‘striking force’. Our strikers need to score more goals and make (better) use of their chances. I see us winning the AFCON because our team is strong. I also believe we need to retain Augustine Eguavoen as the permanent coach. We need to learn how to appreciate our own. The coach is good.”

Akpororo, who owns a football club called   , stated that the government could do a lot to support the local football league in the country. He said, “The first thing to ask is if the government loves football. The government needs to invest in it. I am happy for the Super Eagles because they only travelled to Cameroon some days before the tournament. If the players can be more financially encouraged, I believe that they would give their best. If there is more investment on the team, there would be more results.
