Disney Officially Working on ‘Cruella’ Sequel
The prequel, which stars Emma Stone, received positive reviews from fans and critics.
After only almost two weeks since its release, Disney announced that it is officially working on a Cruella sequel.
According to reports, original director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are both expected to return to the project. The involvement of Emma Stone, who portrayed the title character in the first film, was not confirmed, however. A plot and release dates were not shared.
“We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. “The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”
Cruella hit theaters and Disney+ on May 28, with subscribers of the streaming platform paying $30 USD to access it via Premier Access.
