Kelechi Iheanacho all praise for strike partner Jamie Vardy in latest leap forward for supreme Leicester

Leicester have never won the FA Cup and will take on Chelsea in the Wembley final at the end of the season after edging Southampton on Sunday

It’s a love thing said Kelechi Iheanacho. Not much. No player has scored more in the competition since 2015. His fourth goal in the competition this season took his total in the past six seasons to 14 and took Leicester to the FA Cup final for the first time in 52 years. Man of the match? No contest.

With Iheanacho supplied by the still effervescent Jamie Vardy, Leicester had checkout power that Southampton could not match.

Indeed, Saints failed to register a shot on target. Iheanacho needed two stabs to register what was his 15th goal of the season. The beauty was elsewhere in an all-round display that lit up his team.

“We did it together, the team. It’s not a one-man show,” Iheanacho said.

“I’m happy with the way we stuck together and that I was in the right place at the right time.

“The partnership between Jamie and me is outstanding. He’s got the pace, he’s got everything. He’s a great player and he set up the goal. I think the FA Cup loves me, and I love the FA Cup.”

His manager Brendan Rodgers loves it too.

“Hopefully it (the cup) will love him a bit more,” Rodgers said.

“He’s at the top of his game in terms of confidence. Always feels he can score.”

There was praise also for goal maker Vardy, with Rodgers adding: “The two of them are a real threat. It was clever play by Jamie for the goal. He may not be scoring but he gives us so much thrust.”
