Liverpool further steadied the ship with an important victory at Arsenal on Saturday evening.

Diogo Jota scored twice either side of a Mohamed Salah effort for the Reds as they romped to a 3-0 triumph at the Emirates.

The champions now have a quick turnaround as they prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Real Madrid.

And here we look ahead to the changes Jurgen Klopp could make when his team are next in action.

Same again in defence?

What a difference a settled defence is making to Liverpool’s efforts.

Having been forced to chop and change for much of the campaign, the Reds have now kept three successive clean sheets.

Ozan Kabak and Andy Robertson were substituted during the second half at Arsenal but both are expected to be available in Spain.

Kabak and Nat Phillips have forged a strong centre-back pairing, with Rhys Williams featuring in the closing stages at the Emirates. Ben Davies, who has yet to kick a ball for Liverpool, is another option.

James Milner moved to left-back to deputise for Robertson for the final half-hour, with Kostas Tsimikas remaining on the bench.

And Trent Alexander-Arnold is almost certain to continue at right-back with Neco Williams not in Saturday’s matchday squad.

Wijnaldum on standby

Midfield will be one area of intrigue when the teamsheet drops on Tuesday evening.

Gini Wijnaldum was given a well-earned breather at the weekend and will be almost certain to return to the starting line-up.

And with Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara both impressive it Arsenal, it would appear a straightforward choice for Klopp to select that trio.

However, the Reds boss has options, with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri and Curtis Jones all pressing for inclusion.

Milner, having played the full 90 minutes at the Emirates, may be held back for Saturday and the visit of former club Aston Villa.

The Jota question

One of the more obscure statistics from Saturday evening was that Jota, in netting at the Emirates, was only the second player in Liverpool’s history to score as a substitute both home and away against the same side in a single league season, after Christian Benteke did so against Chelsea in 2015-16.

It leaves Klopp a decision of whether to hand Jota a start, with Roberto Firmino the most likely to make way given Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah having become mainstays of the attack, or keep him back for another cameo role.

That Liverpool can make five substitutions in the Champions League will no doubt be taken into consideration.

Divock Origi, the other dedicated striking option, fell further down the pecking order when wasn’t on the bench at the weekend.
