2027 Elections: Youth Assembly of Nigeria Joins VotersPlus to Drive Youth Voter Mobilisation

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen civic participation among young Nigerians, the Management Team of VotersPlus, a flagship initiative of the Organization of West Africa Youth (OWAY), has held a strategic partnership meeting with Hon. Famuyibo Oluwasegun, National Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN).

The meeting focused on identifying areas of collaboration and exploring ways to mobilise members of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria as grassroots canvassers on the VotersPlus platform. The partnership aims to expand voter education, deepen civic awareness, and encourage greater participation in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

During the discussions, Hon. Famuyibo highlighted a critical challenge facing civic engagement efforts in Nigeria: the millions of young people living in rural communities who have limited access to smartphones, internet connectivity, and other digital tools.

His contribution prompted extensive conversations on the need for inclusive engagement strategies capable of reaching young Nigerians regardless of their geographical location or level of access to technology.

Responding to the concern, the VotersPlus team reaffirmed its commitment to developing both digital and community-based solutions that will ensure meaningful participation from young people in urban centres, semi-urban communities, and rural areas across the country.

“We believe democracy can only flourish when every citizen has a genuine opportunity to participate,” the organisation stated. “Our mission is to ensure that no young Nigerian is left behind in the democratic process.”

The meeting concluded with the Youth Assembly of Nigeria formally accepting the partnership and expressing its readiness to work closely with VotersPlus in advancing youth civic education, voter participation, and democratic engagement nationwide.

The collaboration represents another significant milestone in VotersPlus’ mission to build Nigeria’s largest youth-driven civic engagement network and empower young people to play an active role in shaping the nation’s future.

As preparations for the 2027 General Elections gather momentum, both organisations expressed confidence that the partnership will contribute to reducing voter apathy, strengthening democratic participation, and inspiring a new generation of informed, responsible, and engaged citizens.

For VotersPlus and its partners, the journey towards greater youth participation in Nigeria’s democracy has already begun.

The journey to 2027 begins now.
