Professor Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), revealed that attempts had been made to hack into the commission’s computer system in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

The INEC boss addressed the 2022 National Conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC), the theme of which was “2023 General Elections; Judiciary and Sustainability of Nigeria’s Democracy,” in Abuja on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Who is hacking Nigeria’s database?: Dr Lawrence Bayode, the deputy director of information and communications technology for INEC, said the attacks were coming from various parts of the world.

“We were looking at the system just yesterday, and we saw that people were trying to come into the system from France, but we are also putting some things in place.

How secure is INEC’s system?: “You can’t build a house and you will not put a door, window or burglary; we have done our best to ensure that our system is secured,” Bayode stated.

Yakubu reaffirmed that the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), the Bimodal Voter Registration System (BVAS), and the backend were all well-secured despite their apparent flaws.
