FC Bayern not only secured the 31st league title in 2020/21 but also set a number of records. We show which.

The 2020/21 Bundesliga season officially ended with the presentation of the Meisterschale to Manuel Neuer and FC Bayern at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night. FCB were the best team in Germany for the 31st time in the club’s history. The routewas not easy. The FCB created some interesting stories and set many a record. fcbayern.com has put together the facts of the season.

1. Lewandowski sets new goalscoring record

‘IT WAS LIKE SCIENCE FICTION’

Lewandowski seals trophy and Bundesliga record

Robert Lewandowskiscored 41 goals this season. That not only secured the Torjägerkanone top scorers trophy by a distance but he also broke the 49-year-old record held by Gerd Müller, who scored 40 goals in 1971/72.

2. Record-breaking FCB attack

Bayern found the back of the opposition net 99 times. The attack led by Lewandowski is the third-best in the history of the Bundesliga. More goals were scored in 1971/72 (101) and 2019/20 (100) – both times by FC Bayern.

3. Start with record victory

Bayern made it clear onmatchday 1 what the league could expect this term. FC Schalke 04 were hammered 8-0 at the Allianz Arena. That was the biggest win on the opening matchday in the history of the Bundesliga.

4. Musiala is the youngest

The goal for 8-0 was scored by Jamal Musiala. At the age of 17 years and 205 he became FC Bayern’s youngest Bundesliga goalscorertaking over the mantle from Roque Santa Cruz, who scored the only goal in the 1-0 win against Unterhaching in 1999 at the age of 18 years and 12 days. With two goals in the 3-2 win at Wolfsburg, Musiala became the youngest player to score a brace in the Bundesliga in the history of the record champions on matchday 29 at 18 years and 50 days.

5. Incredible character and irrepressible will to win

The fact Bayern were not given an easy ride is shown by the 44 goals conceded and also that FCB went behind in eight games in succession from matchdays 7 to 14. Thanks to their incredible character none of these games were lost. No team had previously succeeded in coming from behind in eight Bundesliga games in succession.

6. On and on!

The ‘highlight’ of that run followed on matchday 14 when FSV Mainz 05 lead 2-0 at the break. After an impressive comeback in the second half, FCB ended up winning5-2. The Reds were able to turn round a 2-0 deficit at half-time for the first time since May 1988 – back then in 4-3 win against Leverkusen (from 3-1 down).

7. Ten battle like eleven

On matchday 26 FCB had to play with ten men against VfB Stuttgart for nearly 80 minutes after a red card for Alphonso Davies(twelfth minute) – and really turned it on. There were three goals in five minutes (18-23) and another goal just before half-time. Bayern were the first team in the history of the league to score four goals before the break with a player down.

8. Alaba sets foreign player record

In this 4-0 win against VfB, David Alaba made his 273rd appearance for Bayern to equal the record of Franck Ribéry as the FCB foreign player with the most games. Up to the end of the season and his agreed departure the Austrian will build on his total of 281 games for the Reds in Germany’s top flight.

9. Lewandowski feels at home everywhere

In the 4-0 win at Schalke on matchday 18 Robert Lewandowski became the first player in the history of the Bundesliga in eight away games in succession.

10. Neuer the Wall

In that game, Manuel Neuer kept a clean sheet for the 197th time. That saw him overtake the previous record holder Oliver Kahn (196). Neuer also became a champion of Germany for the ninth time this season and thereby he also surpassed the Titan as the keeper with the most league trophies.

11. Lewandowski chases Müller: Part I

Lewandowski has taken the record of the most goals in a season from Gerd Müller and is on his heels in other areas. The Pole lifted the Torjägerkanone for the sixth time. Der Bomber holds the record with seven trophies. This season has seen Lewandowski become the top goalscorer for the fourth time on the bounce more times than Gerd Müller (maximum of three in succession).

12. Lewandowski chases Müller: Part II

His 199th Bundesliga goal for FCB was a real wonder goal. Lewandowski then made it 200 from the penalty spot.
His 199th Bundesliga goal for FCB was a real wonder goal. Lewandowski then made it 200 from the penalty spot.

Gerd Müller (365) was the only player before this season to score 200 Bundesliga goals for one club. Robert Lewandowski achieved that level in the 6-0 championsperformance against Borussia Mönchengladbach and with two more goals on the final two matchdays he has netted 202 goals in the top flight for FCB.

13. 🎵 We sing and dance on every football pitch 🎵

The 2-2 draw with SC Freiburg on matchday 33 went down in history as the match where Lewandowski broke the Müller record. But FCB also set a new record: Bayern scored at least one goal in 34 away games in succession.
